Cristiano Ronaldo may still have the chance to participate in the Club World Cup this summer, despite Al-Nassr not qualifying for the competition.
The five-time Ballon d`Or winner`s contract with Al-Nassr is set to expire on June 30th, which falls in the middle of the Club World Cup tournament.
However, newly introduced transfer regulations this week could allow him to move clubs before his contract ends.
Teams participating in the Club World Cup are now permitted to sign and register new players between June 1st and June 10th.
This opens the door for Ronaldo to be signed by a Club World Cup team before his Al-Nassr contract officially concludes.
In theory, he could sign a one-month contract specifically to play in this prestigious tournament.
Clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid are expected to compete in the Club World Cup.
Inter Miami, Lionel Messi`s MLS team, will also be participating.
Therefore, if Ronaldo were to make such a move, fans could witness another legendary showdown between Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Considering the Club World Cup will be held every four years starting this summer, it is unlikely Ronaldo will be actively playing when the subsequent tournament takes place.
So far this season, the 40-year-old Ronaldo has scored 28 goals and provided four assists in 33 appearances for Al-Nassr.
For clubs not involved in the Club World Cup, the regular transfer window will be open from June 16th to September 1st.
