Coach Ruff Criticizes Sabres Following Loss to Flyers

NHL

A challenging season for Buffalo seems to be weighing heavily on Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff.

Following a 7-4 defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, the experienced coach did not hold back his disappointment.

`They completely disrespected the game,` Ruff stated regarding his team`s play. `It was like `Christmas hockey`, gifting away the first three goals. You can`t expect to win on the road playing like that, and our road game has been a focus. We lacked discipline and attention to detail in managing the puck early on, which really hurt us.`

Despite a dynamic game, the Sabres managed to narrow the gap to 6-4 with Alex Tuch`s short-handed goal at 15:05 in the third period.

However, the Flyers quickly responded, extending their lead back to three goals just 29 seconds later. Ryan Poehling`s ninth goal of the season sealed the victory for Philadelphia.

`The penalty we took at the end was unacceptable, especially when we were trying to get back into the game. We took a risk with our penalty kill to score short-handed, and they tried to capitalize on that as well, but it ultimately cost us a chance for a late comeback,` Ruff explained.
