NHL

The Washington Capitals announced on Monday that they have extended their contract with Canadian goaltender Garin Bjorklund.

This is a one-year, two-way deal valued at an average of $775,000 per season.

The 23-year-old netminder has been playing for the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL, where he recorded a 2.02 goals-against average over 29 regular-season games. His .927 save percentage was the third-best among ECHL goaltenders.

Bjorklund made his debut in the AHL with the Capitals` minor league affiliate, the Hershey Bears, last March. He holds a 2-0-0 record in the AHL with a 1.49 goals-against average.

Washington originally drafted Bjorklund 179th overall in the sixth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
