The Washington Capitals announced on Thursday they have completed a trade to acquire forward Justin Sourdif from the Florida Panthers. In exchange for Sourdif, the Panthers will receive a second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft and a sixth-round pick in the 2027 draft.
Sourdif, a 23-year-old forward, spent the majority of the 2024–25 season with the Charlotte Checkers, Florida`s American Hockey League affiliate. During the regular season, he was productive, tallying 34 points from 16 goals and 18 assists over 43 games.
He also made a significant contribution in the playoffs, recording 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 18 appearances as the Checkers advanced to the Calder Cup Final before ultimately falling to the Abbotsford Canucks in Game 6.
Across his AHL career, Sourdif has accumulated a total of 96 points, scoring 35 goals and adding 61 assists in 149 games played.
A native of Richmond, British Columbia, Sourdif has played in four NHL games to date. This past season included one of those appearances, during which he scored his first career NHL goal.
Sourdif was originally selected by the Florida Panthers in the third round, 87th overall, of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
