Canucks Ignite Offense with Team-Wide Contribution

NHL

ELMONT, N.Y. — Music selection speaks volumes. After Wednesday night`s victory, Vancouver Canucks` DJ Conor Garland fittingly chose “New York, New York” as the team`s anthem.

It`s doubtful Frank Sinatra`s music has ever resonated this powerfully with a generation born around his passing. Yet, had `Old Blue Eyes` donned a Canucks jersey against the New York Islanders, he might have found the back of the net too.

With their typically reliable defense faltering, the Canucks amplified their offensive output to fuel their urgent playoff push in the National Hockey League. A strategic move indeed.

Surprisingly, Vancouver`s 5-2 triumph saw goals from depth players: checking center Teddy Blueger, AHL call-up Aatu Raty, and defensive defenseman Derek Forbort. Forbort`s daring offensive foray broke a 2-2 deadlock with just 23 seconds remaining in the second period. This pivotal goal sparked a four-goal surge in the final 26 minutes, decisively swinging the game in favor of the Canucks.

Forbort, who snapped an 82-game goal drought on March 9th, has now tallied two goals in his last ten appearances.
