According to reports, Bruno Fernandes has declined a substantial offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.
The Manchester United captain was said to be considering a significant three-year, tax-free deal valued at £200 million.
Fernandes, aged 30, was recently with the Red Devils during their post-season tour in Asia.
Simultaneously, his agent, Miguel Pinho, traveled to Riyadh for discussions with Al-Hilal executives.
The Saudi Pro League team was reportedly seeking a quick decision as they prepare for the Club World Cup.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano states that Fernandes has chosen to reject Al-Hilal`s proposal.
It is reported that the Portuguese international`s desire is to “play at the top level in Europe”.
Despite this, whether his future lies at Manchester United remains uncertain.
Fernandes is currently under contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2027.
Manchester United also holds an option to extend his contract for an additional year.
Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Fernandes` decision to decline Al-Hilal`s offer came after discussions with his family.
The attacking midfielder was also recently seen having dinner with Al-Hilal star and Portugal teammate Joao Cancelo.
Following the Red Devils` Europa League final defeat to Tottenham (Note: original text mentioned Europa League final loss to Tottenham), Fernandes had hinted at a potential exit from United.
After the match, he stated: “I have always been honest. I`ve always said I will be here until the club says to me that it`s time to go… If the club thinks it`s time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in or whatever, it`s what it is, and football sometimes is like this.”
Fernandes subsequently featured in the Red Devils` final league game against Aston Villa and participated in both of their post-season friendlies (Note: original text mentioned these specific fixtures).
When manager Ruben Amorim (Note: original text attributes quote to Ruben Amorim, identified as United manager) was asked if his captain had played his last game for the club after a 3-1 comeback win against Hong Kong, he replied: “I don’t think so… He is seeing us taking some actions to change all the things and I think that is all that he wants to stay… He’s saying ‘no’ to a lot of things, but it shows that he wants to win… He’s really young, he’s really good. He needs to be in the best league in the world.”
