Following a promising second season, forward Dmitri Voronkov will continue his development with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Blue Jackets announced Saturday they have signed the restricted free agent to a contract extension worth $8.35 million over two years.
Voronkov, age 24, recorded 23 goals and added 24 assists for a total of 47 points in 73 games played during the previous season.
In a press release, Blue Jackets President and General Manager Don Waddell commented on the signing: “`We are very pleased to reach this agreement with Dmitri as he is an important part of our young core. He has size, strength and excellent hands and has a chance to be a very special player. We look forward to his continued growth and development as a Blue Jacket.`”
Columbus originally selected the six-foot-five Russian winger in the fourth round, 114th overall, in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
Prior to coming to North America for the 2023-24 season, Voronkov spent four seasons playing in Russia`s KHL league.
He was also a member of the Russian national team that won the silver medal at the 2022 Olympic Games.
