Veteran defenseman Brent Burns is off the market.
The Colorado Avalanche announced Wednesday that the 40-year-old blue-liner has signed a one-year contract with the team.
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Burns` deal includes a base salary of $1 million for the upcoming season, with the potential to earn an additional $3 million through games-played bonuses.
Burns spent the last three seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes, playing in every regular-season game (246 total) and 41 playoff contests. However, his offensive production saw a decline last season, as he recorded just six goals and 23 assists, his lowest totals since the shortened 2020-21 campaign.
The imposing right-shot defenseman also boasts the longest active ironman streak in the league, having played 925 consecutive games. His impressive run was nearly broken in the final game of the regular season against the Ottawa Senators, but he managed to play 24 seconds in the 7-5 loss.
He is currently 139 games short of Phil Kessel`s all-time record.
Throughout his extensive career, Burns has accumulated 910 points (261 goals, 649 assists) over 1,497 regular-season games. In 135 career playoff games, he has added 24 goals and 56 assists.
