In a thrilling Saturday night game, the Colorado Avalanche edged out the Montreal Canadiens with a 5-4 shootout victory. Despite a remarkable third-period rally from the Canadiens, Brock Nelson`s decisive shootout goal in the fourth round sealed the win for Colorado.
Charlie Coyle also scored in the shootout for Colorado, while Patrik Laine managed to score for Montreal.
Nelson contributed significantly during regulation time as well, scoring a goal and providing an assist. Additional goals for Colorado were scored by Martin Necas, Sam Malinski, and Ryan Lindgren. Goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood was solid in net, stopping 25 shots from the Canadiens.
The Canadiens demonstrated resilience in the third period when forwards Joshua Roy and Juraj Slafkovsky scored within 30 seconds of each other, bringing the score to 4-3. Slafkovsky`s goal was his second of the game. The momentum continued as Christian Dvorak then scored the equalizing goal at 13:32, igniting the home crowd at the Bell Centre.
