Former UFC bantamweight titleholder Aljamain Sterling has offered his perspective, suggesting that Islam Makhachev has, at this point in his career, surpassed the achievements or standing of his legendary predecessor, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Sterling elaborated on his reasoning, stating, “In my view, Islam is without question one of the premier lightweights of all time. I genuinely think he has surpassed Khabib, largely due to his level of activity. While some may not consider him the most active fighter ever, consider this: Khabib had roughly 13 or 14 fights within the UFC, and I believe Islam already has accumulated more bouts in the organization. However, the most significant factor, in my opinion, is how he surpassed him: through a string of impressive victories against formidable contenders en route to capturing the title, and subsequently, successfully defending it against top-tier opponents.”
