Abbotsford Canucks Advance to Calder Cup Final, Face Charlotte Checkers

NHL

The Abbotsford Canucks, the American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League`s Vancouver Canucks, have successfully advanced to the championship series.

They secured their spot in the Calder Cup Final by defeating the Texas Stars with a 4-2 victory in the sixth game of the Western Conference Final, played on Sunday.

In the decisive Game 6, Abbotsford demonstrated resilience by overcoming an early two-goal deficit. They scored four unanswered goals to clinch the win and book their ticket to the final. Arshdeep Bains was a key offensive force for Abbotsford, netting two goals during the crucial comeback.

Canucks goaltender Arturs Silovs also played a pivotal role in the victory, making 23 saves on the 25 shots he faced throughout the game.

Abbotsford will now compete against the Charlotte Checkers in the Calder Cup Final. The Checkers, who are the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers, advanced to the championship series by sweeping the Laval Rocket in the Eastern Conference Final.

This achievement is particularly notable as it marks the first time since 2008 that a single NHL organization will have its teams competing in both the Stanley Cup Final and the Calder Cup Final in the same season.

The first game of the Calder Cup Final series is scheduled to take place on Friday, hosted in Charlotte.
